Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi attended the PCB Interschools Cricket Final at Naya Nazimabad in Karachi. He announced major plans for cricket infrastructure and youth development. Naqvi traveled from Islamabad to Karachi on a special aircraft and landed at PAF Faisal Base. Authorities at Karachi Airport and PAF Faisal Base were informed in advance.
At Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana Cricket Stadium, Naqvi distributed prizes to the winning interschools team and interacted with young cricketers. He said the purpose of interschools cricket tournaments is to identify and nurture talent from across the country. He added that a special event will involve teams that won interschools competitions.
Naqvi announced that upgrades of the National Stadium Karachi will begin immediately after the Pakistan Super League concludes. He said the stadium will be reconstructed and made even better than Lahore’s cricket grounds. He acknowledged long-standing issues with cricket grounds in Karachi and promised improvements soon. The PCB chief assured that cricket facilities across the country, including Karachi, will see major upgrades.
The chairman said once Karachi’s grounds are upgraded, cricket fans will return to venues in large numbers. He reiterated that Karachi will get a stadium better than Lahore’s, attracting more spectators. Naqvi stressed that improved infrastructure will strengthen Pakistan’s domestic cricket and inspire young players.
Furthermore, Naqvi revealed that efforts are underway to host the Women’s World Cup in Pakistan. He clarified that no discussions have taken place yet with the team captain regarding the tournament. He emphasized that the PCB’s stance on India remains firm, and any talks will occur strictly on the basis of equality.
